Aurora Aksnes first musical memory was when she discovered a keyboard in her loft and being intrigued by its sounds. Parents May-Britt and Jan Oystein Aksnes encouraged her to study music, not for a profession or a pastime, but as a way to develop. She began writing her own songs. Her influences include renowned authors Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan and her love of Bjork's style. Her mother had told her the songs she wrote might not gain fame for her but instead to inspire people to see their own value and impact in our world at large, she began performing them publicly. She was suggested by her mother to be able to perform her music publicly in order so that people can see their own importance and how they can affect the world. She didn't tell her family about her music until she reached fourteen. The dream was never to be Aurora. The singer says that she simply likes writing songs. She claims that music is her favorite way of feeling something.
